How to freeze blue crab
- Start by selecting fresh blue crabs that are alive and have all their legs intact.
- Thoroughly clean the crabs by removing any dirt or debris from their shells.
- Boil a large pot of water and cook the crabs for about 10 minutes. This will kill the crabs and make them easier to handle.
- Remove the crabs from the pot and let them cool down to room temperature.
- Once the crabs are cool, carefully remove the shells and clean out the insides, discarding any gills or other innards.
- Place the cleaned crab meat into a freezer-safe container or bag, making sure to remove as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn.
- Label the container with the date and store it in the freezer.
- When ready to use the frozen blue crab, defrost it in the refrigerator overnight before cooking.
