How to Make Steamed Buns Without a Steamer
Steamed buns can be easily made even without a traditional steamer. Here's how you can do it:
- Prepare the dough for the steamed buns by mixing flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and water in a bowl. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Divide the dough into smaller portions and shape them into balls. Place the dough balls on a lightly floured surface.
- Fill a large pot with about an inch of water and bring it to a simmer over medium heat.
- Place a heatproof plate or a metal colander over the pot of simmering water. Make sure that the plate or colander is slightly elevated above the water.
- Arrange the shaped dough balls on the plate or colander, leaving some space between each bun to allow for expansion.
- Cover the pot with a lid and steam the buns for about 15-20 minutes, or until they are cooked through and fluffy.
- Check the water level periodically and add more water if needed to maintain the steam.
- Once the steamed buns are cooked, carefully remove them from the pot using tongs or a spatula.
- Serve the steamed buns warm and enjoy!
