How do you freeze blue crab?

How to Freeze Blue Crab:

  1. Start by cleaning the blue crab by removing the top shell and removing the gills and any innards.
  2. Rinse the crab under cold water to remove any remaining debris.
  3. Place the cleaned crab in a pot of boiling water for about 5-7 minutes to partially cook them.
  4. Once cooked, remove the crab from the pot and cool them down quickly by placing them in a bowl of ice water.
  5. Once they are cooled, you can choose to clean and separate the crab meat from the shell or freeze them whole.
  6. To freeze the crab meat, place the meat in a freezer-safe container or bag, making sure to remove as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn.
  7. To freeze the whole crab, place them in airtight containers or bags, again removing as much air as possible.
  8. Label the containers with the date of freezing and place them in the freezer.
  9. Frozen blue crab can be kept for up to 6 months in the freezer.
